In 2020, for the first time ever, 43% of energy generated was renewable with fossil fuels providing 38.5%.
In Quarter 1 2021, renewables share of electricity generation was 41.6%, most of which came from wind and solar.
Offshore wind generated 13.4% and is the leading renewable technology, and onshore wind generated 13.4%; this is due to the first quarter of the year being windy with storms Ciara and Dennis is February.
Bioenergy accounted for 12.3%, Solar PV was 2.1%, and Hydro energy generation was 1.9%.
