Benchmark Consulting > Blog > COP26 > COP 26 Countdown: 4. Why are Granularity, Accuracy, Transparency & Authenticity so important in packaging?

Benchmark have conducted a case study analysis and can conclude that the UK Government’s approach is correct to highlight the need for Granularity, Accuracy, Transparency & Authenticity.
Benchmark’s software has been used to calculate 11,250 specification commercial & carbon emissions from source to factory gate, within the value chain with the accuracy, granularity, and transparency, that the government are expecting calculated at the stock keeping unit (SKU) level.
This research proves that given the complexity of packaging production, a simple average number for packaging materials, no matter where or how applied, would not be suffice. What is necessary is granularity to highlight the data, accuracy when calculating results, transparency to enable informed decisions as to how to improve and authenticity to build trust between producers, packers, retailers, and consumers when reporting results by e.g., using traffic lights.
