Benchmark Consulting > Blog > COP26 > COP 26 Countdown: 18. Carbon footprint of a market-leading laptop

Many of us use a laptop in day-to-day life, but have you ever considered the carbon footprint of one?
The product environmental report states that a 13-inch laptops carbon footprint is 185kg carbon emissions. This factors in sourcing materials, manufacturing, packaging and shipping, usage and recovery.
A 1.0-litre petrol-engine VW Polo model emits 108g/km of CO2, meaning you would have to drive 4384km to release the same amount of carbon as the laptop. Route 66 in the USA spans from LA to Chicago, and is 3940km long, taking 29 hours to drive. This would still leave another 440km to cover, perhaps from Nottingham to Glasgow for the COP26 conference?
